The Ball State Alumni Association is all about giving back, and recently the Black Alumni Constituent Society (BACS) was able to prove that.

In a recent crowdfunding campaign, BACS raised more than $10,000 for book scholarships. This surpassed the original goal of $5,000 and also a second goal of $7,500.

Over the past seven years, 93 students have been awarded book scholarships. These recipients have come from various economic backgrounds and have had to overcome many hardships to pursue their education at Ball State. With the intersection of financial crises and the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alumni Association and the Black Alumni Constituent Society is more committed than ever to support Black students as they pursue their academic goals and their dream of graduating from Ball State University.

Many of the book scholarship recipients come from low-income, single-parent households. Some students grow up without either parent in the home. Most are first-generation college students. While they are very proud and grateful to be able to attend Ball State, their main concerns are paying for books and having the financial means to finish college. Students who feel they are eligible for a book scholarship can apply through the form on the Black Alumni Constituent Society webpage.
