We have so much good news that we&#8217;re sharing it <span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">once a month<\/span> rather than once a semester. <\/strong>In fact, we already have \u00a0a bunch of weekly good news queued up for October!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jill Christman<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Her essay, \u201cThe Avocado,\u201d was featured on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-humble-essayist.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Humble Essayist<\/a>, a new site that celebrates and critically examines the essay form.<\/li>\n<li>Her first e-book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jillchristman.com\/borrowedbabies.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Borrowed Babies<\/em><\/a>, hit virtual shelves on September 4th, 2014.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rai Peterson<\/strong> recently received an Outstanding Immersive Learning Project for 2014 for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsu.edu\/features\/global\/immersivelearning\/keepingkurtvonnegut\" target=\"_blank\">her project<\/a> regarding the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emily Scalzo<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Blue Collar Review<\/i> plans to publish two of Scalzo&#8217;s poems, &#8220;90% of Americans Cannot Place the Philippines on a Map&#8221; and &#8220;Duplicity, or Why I Will Not Support Hillary for 2016,&#8221; in future issues.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hothousemagazine.org\/4-haiku-by-emily-jo-scalzo\/\" target=\"_blank\">Four haiku<\/a> were published via <em>Hothouse Magazine.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Her tanka, &#8220;released by children&#8221;, appeared in <em>Cattails<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Her poem, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leaves-of-ink.com\/2014\/06\/such-good-feeling.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Such a Good Feeling&#8221;<\/a>, appeared in Leaves of Ink.<\/li>\n<li>The poem <a href=\"http:\/\/perspectivelit.com\/revisionist-history-compliments-texas-board-of-education\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Revisionist History, Compliments Texas Board of Education&#8221;<\/a> appeared in <i>Perspective Literary Magazine.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>The poem &#8220;An Offbeat Moment&#8221; is pending publication in <em>Third Wednesday.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>The poem &#8220;Growing Pains&#8221; is pending publication in <em>Midwestern Gothic.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Robert Habich&#8217;s <\/b>essay entitled \u201cAn \u2018Extempore Adventure\u2019 in Italy: Emerson as International Tourist 1832-33\u201d has been accepted for publication in a collection entitled <i>A Power To Translate The World: New Essays on Emerson and International Culture. <\/i>The volume will appear in a series called<a href=\"http:\/\/www.upne.com\/series\/TASS.html\"> <i>Re-Mapping the Transnational: A Dartmouth Series in American Studies<\/i><\/a> (Dartmouth College Press), under the auspices of the University Press of New England.<\/p>\n<p><b>Diane Mooney, JoAnne Ruvoli,<\/b> and <b>Jeff Frawley <\/b>recently submitted to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncte.org\/cccc\">Conference on College Composition and Communication.<\/a> Their proposal, \u201cResearching Controversy: The Rhetorics of Stereotyping, Protest, Art, and Apology,\u201d has been accepted for the 2015 conference in Tampa.<\/p>\n<p><b>Cathy Day <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She was featured on <i>Inside Higher Ed,<\/i> giving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/advice\/2014\/08\/18\/advice-professors-starting-over-new-college-part-2-essay\">advice<\/a> to professors on starting over at a new college, managing expectations, and getting what you really want.<\/li>\n<li>Her essay <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themillions.com\/2014\/09\/the-magic-building-where-english-majors-work-making-sense-of-creative-writings-job-problem.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;The Magic Building Where English Majors Work&#8221; <\/a>was published at <em>The Millions<\/em> on September 10, 2014.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Beth Dalton <\/b>delivered the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsu.edu\/academics\/collegesanddepartments\/honorscollege\/activitiesandopportunities\/awardsandhonors\/whitingerlecturer\" target=\"_blank\">Honors College Whitinger Lecture<\/a> entitled \u201cFar Away Home.\u201d<b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Pat Collier <\/b>was an invited presenter as \u201cMagazines And\/As Media,\u201d a <a href=\"http:\/\/modmag.ca\/workshop\/schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\">workshop<\/a> at the University of Alberta, sponsored by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.<\/p>\n<p><b>Jennifer Grouling <\/b>was quoted in a New York Times <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/07\/14\/books\/dungeons-dragons-has-influenced-a-generation-of-writers.html?ribbon-ad-idx=11&amp;rref=books&amp;module=Ribbon&amp;version=origin&amp;region=Header&amp;action=click&amp;contentCollection=Books&amp;pgtype=article&amp;_r=2\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> on gaming and narrative.<\/p>\n<p><b>Angela Jackson-Brown<\/b> was a guest on Cyrus Webb&#8217;s online radio show discussing her novel, <em>Drinking from a Bitter Cup<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Frank Felsenstein\u2019s <\/b>piece on Rowlandson\u2019s <i>Peter Plumb\u2019s Diary<\/i> was just published via <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalcommons.mcmaster.ca\/ecf\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eighteenth-Century Fiction<\/a>, a journal of McMaster University.
