In May, the first of two special issues on \u201cWomen and Archives\u201d she co-edited for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tulsa Studies in Women\u2019s Literature <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was published; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tswl.utulsa.edu\/2020s\/vol-40-2020s\/no-1-vol-40-2020s\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">this issue <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was recently nominated for the 2021 Council of Editors of Learned Journals Best Special Issue Award. In July, Dr. Rutter delivered the keynote address at the twenty-fifth annual <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawa.edu\/baseball-conference\/keynote-speakers\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Conference on Baseball in Literature and Culture<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Finally, her forthcoming book, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rutgersuniversitypress.org\/black-celebrity\/9781644532447\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Black Celebrity: Contemporary Representations of Postbellum Black Athletes and Artists<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, is now available for pre-order from Rutgers University Press.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Dr. Adam R. Beach<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> published an essay titled \u201cTrauma, Psychological Coercion, and Slaves Who Love Their Masters: The Case of William Okeley\u201d in the volume <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nebraskapress.unl.edu\/nebraska\/9781496208910\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Early Modern Trauma: Europe and the Atlantic World<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 He also gave a presentation, \u201cEquiano on the Wharf: \u2018Kind Treatment\u2019 and the Urban Slave in the English Caribbean,\u201d at American Society of Eighteenth-Century Studies Annual Meeting in April 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rani Deighe Crowe<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professor Crowe\u2019s short film, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Quiet on Set <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">has been busy on the festival circuit. It has been selected for Findecoin International Short Film Festival in Venezuela, Sunscreen Film Festival in St. Petersburg, FL, Vierte Welle Feminist Film Festival in Germany, Boden International Film Festival in Sweden, Nevada Women\u2019s Film Festival, Cinema Sisters Film Festival in Wilmington, NC, Sacramento International Film Festival in CA, Interrobang Film Festival in Iowa, Deep in the Heart Film Festival in Waco, TX, MKE Short Film Festival in Milwaukee, WI, The Women\u2019s Film Festival in Philadelphia, PA, Sioux City Film Festival in Sioux City, IA, and the Detroit Shetown Film Festival in MI. It won the award for Artistic Achievement at the MKE Short Film Festival and was selected to screen at the University Film and Video Conference.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rani\u2019s screenwriting assignment, \u201cWriting Other\u201d was selected for publication for the EDIT Media (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusive Teaching in Media) website. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.editmedia.org\/teaching-material\/exercise-and-assignment-writing-other-a-screenwriting-module\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">http:\/\/www.editmedia.org\/teaching-material\/exercise-and-assignment-writing-other-a-screenwriting-module\/<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rani\u2019s short film, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beautiful Eyes,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was invited to screen as part of Final Girls Berlin Film Festival\u2019s international curated programming on Cathode TV on August 4. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beautiful Eyes <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was also selected for the SPE (Society for Photographic Education) Media Festival.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rani\u2019s short film, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Heather Has Four Moms<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, was invited to screen and speak with the curated women\u2019s online guest series, Women on the Net in May. It was also invited to screen with Portland Film Festival\u2019s Indie Film Series for Pride month in June 2021. It has also been invited to screen with LesFlicks Fall Film Festival online in 2021. It was also selected to screen at SPE (Society for Photographic Education) Media Festival.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professor Crowe participated in the Ball State Faculty Externship program, and spent a week at Mursix Corporation learning about component design and manufacturing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professor Crowe has joined the Board of Open Circle Theater Company in Washington DC,\u00a0 a company that produces high-quality, inventive theatre productions that provide opportunities for professional theatre artists with and without disabilities. Open Circle is currently in residence at the Kennedy Center\u2019s new Reach Space. http:\/\/opencircletheatre.org<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Patrick Collier\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> book, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teaching Literature in the Real World: A Practical Guide<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, was published by Bloomsbury Academic on Aug. 21.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Dr. Garcia\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> book, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Data Visualization and Analysis in Second Language Research<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, was published by Routledge on May 31st (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/guilhermegarcia.github.io\/dvaslr.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">more info here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">). In June, he had a journal article published in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Glossa<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (joint work with <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/nataliaguzzo.github.io\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Nat\u00e1lia B. Guzzo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">): <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/doi.org\/10.5334\/gjgl.1413\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gradience in prosodic representation: vowel reduction and neoclassical elements in Brazilian Portuguese<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Over the summer, Dr. Garcia also gave talks (joint work with <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/nataliaguzzo.github.io\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Nat\u00e1lia B. Guzzo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">) on corpus linguistics at the 51st Linguistic Symposium on Romance Languages (LSRL) and at the 54th Annual Meeting of the Societas Linguistica Europaea (SLE). The materials for the presentation are available on an OSF repository and can be accessed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/osf.io\/wmgfd\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Both presentations are connected to one of his current research projects (further developed over the summer) to create an open access written corpus of Brazilian Veneto, an understudied language in southern Brazil. The corpus can be accessed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/guilhermegarcia.github.io\/talian.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Dr. Darolyn \u201cLyn\u201d Jones<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Jones had several publications this summer and earned an award.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 4th edition of her education book, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Painless Reading Comprehension, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">published by Barron\u2019s Educational Publishing, a Division of Kaplan, was released on June 1, 2021 and has sold 3,000 units since June 1.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 10th anniversary volume of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I Remember: Indianapolis Youth Write about their Lives, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a series edited by<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lyn with INwords Publications was released on July 22, 2021<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Jones was part of the Belt Publishing <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Indy Anthology<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> edited by Norman Minnick.\u00a0 Her literary essay \u201cIn Indy, #blackyouthmatter\u201d was featured as part of the Kennedy-King neighborhood in Indianapolis.\u00a0 Lyn was invited to read her essay at a Belt event held at the Tube Factory.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Jones was awarded the Indiana LEAP Covid Character Honors Award by the LEAP Indiana Innovation and Strategies Committee on July 10, 2021 for her Immersive project Sitting at the Feet of our Muncie Elders: Stories of Resistance and Resiliency.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Dr. Megumi Hamada\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> first book, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbury.com\/us\/learning-words-from-reading-9781350153684\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Learning Words from Reading: A Cognitive Model of Word-Meaning Inference<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201d was published by Bloomsbury Academic in August 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Victoria Barrett\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> flash short story \u201cEmancipation\u201d was published 9\/3 at MonkeyBicycle: <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/monkeybicycle.net\/emancipation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">http:\/\/monkeybicycle.net\/emancipation\/.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Dr. Joyce Huff<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> co-presented the keynote speech at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Composing Disability <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">conference in April 2021. She and Martha Stoddard-Holmes, her co-editor for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A Cultural History of Disability in the Long Nineteenth Century, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">spoke about what the study of nineteenth-century disability can teach people living through a global pandemic today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Five poems from <\/span><b>Katy Didden\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> forthcoming manuscript, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ore Choir: the Lava on Iceland<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, appeared in the latest issue of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ospressan.com\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00d3s Pressan<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a journal of multi-lingual writing in Iceland. In July, her short essay on the Poem \u201cNoche de Lluvia, San Salvador\u201d by Aracelis Girmay appeared in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Sewanee Review\u2019s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> online forum <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thesewaneereview.com\/articles\/stanzas-aracelis-girmay\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Stanzas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Katy joined the roster for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/indianahumanities.org\/environmental-humanities-speakers-bureau\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unearthed Speakers Bureau Program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> through Indiana Humanities, and will be leading the next <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/indianahumanities.org\/programs\/campfires\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Trek and Talk<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for the Next Indiana Campfires Series.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Jill Christman<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Christman\u2019s forty-page longform essay, \u201cFalling,\u201d won the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Iron Horse Literary Review <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Long Story Contest in fall 2020 and was published as<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/issuu.com\/ironhorsereview\/docs\/long_story_2021_final_typeset\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a single-author e-single in June 2021.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Also in June, \u201cThe Sandbox Ghost,\u201d was a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/frontpage.gcsu.edu\/node\/8046\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">finalist for the 2021 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Arts &amp; Letters <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Susan Atefat Prize for Creative Nonfiction<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and another new essay, \u201cMr. Cosmos,\u201d was a finalist for the 2021 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">New Ohio Review <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nonfiction Prize and is slated for publication in<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohio.edu\/nor\/\"> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NOR<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">s December 2021 online issue.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Christman\u2014who was awarded a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsu.edu\/about\/administrativeoffices\/immersive-learning\/for-faculty\/immersive-learning-faculty-awards\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2021 Immersive Learning Faculty Award<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for her work with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Indelible: Campus Sexual Violence<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014has continued the podcast in collaboration with two former students from the Virginia Ball Center class<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Together, they have worked on promotion of<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indeliblepodcast.com\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the website\/podcast<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and produced a bonus episode on Title IX changes. (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Indelible <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was also a finalist in the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/screencraft.org\/2021\/01\/27\/2021-screencraft-podcast-competition-semifinalists\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Screencraft national podcast competitio<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">n in 2020\u2014and really, e<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">veryone<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> should listen.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Molly Ferguson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> presented virtually at two international conferences this summer. At the American Conference of Irish Studies held in Northern Ireland, she contributed to a roundtable on Gothic Irish studies: \u201cClaire Kilroy\u2019s Neoliberal Gothic: Alcoholism and Austerity\u201d; in a panel she delivered a paper titled, \u201cThe Hag-into-Hare folk tale in stories by Clare Keegan and Dierdre Sullivan\u201d. At the IASIL conference in Poland, she presented \u201cThe Changeling Legend and Queer Kinship in Caitriona Lally\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eggshells\u201d. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She was formally elected the Women\u2019s and Gender Studies Representative on the executive board of the ACIS.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In August 2021, <strong>Ben Bascom<\/strong> was a research fellow at the John Filson Historical Society in Louisville, KY. He received a financial stipend through the institution and examined their papers and manuscripts related to his book project, \u201cFeeling Singular: Queer Masculinities in the Early United States.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #bf1111\"><strong>Alumni<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #ba1e1e\">Current Students<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><b>Lincoln Reed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was awarded a 2021 summer residency by the Ragdale Foundation where he completed a draft of a new novel. In August, he signed book contracts for his baseball novel <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gunslinger <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and short story collection <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These Hollow Bones<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Both are forthcoming from Springer Mountain Press. Eleven of his short stories were published this summer in print anthologies and online publications. During August, his story \u201cGreen Limbo\u201d was named a winner in Havok Publishing\u2019s season five contest and will be included in the season anthology <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prismatic <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">set for publication this fall. Lincoln has two short stories releasing on September 30th\u2014\u201cDust to Dust\u201d featured in Havok Publishing\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thriller Thursday<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and \u201cEx Libris\u201d featured in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Extinct Worlds<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a science fiction anthology by Dragon Soul Press.
