It&#8217;s a nice story&#8211;until you think about all that happened next in colonial\/Native American relations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>What do you do when the first chapter of the story of your country is a prelude to tragedy?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Answer: Stop telling the wrong story, and learn the right one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span perspective of the Europeans. \u00a0No matter how accurate these works are, the Native Americans are treated as background characters. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In these two books, Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz writes history with the Native Americans as the main actors. <em>An Indigenous Peoples\u2019 History of the United States<\/em> is a thorough, tragic, yet deeply gripping work of history that spans nearly half a millennium. <em>\u201cAll The Real Indians Died Off\u201d<\/em>, on the other hand, focuses on dispelling specific widely held beliefs about Native Americans. Grippo and Christopher Hoskins shows us that everything started somewhere, even things that seem like they\u2019ve been around forever. What I love most about this book is the images. All the pictures of the old balloons and floats seem so familiar but are so clearly of a different time.
