Along with other researchers, their team contributed to the paper titled \u201cCreating Systems of Sustainability: Four Focus Areas for the Future of PK-12 Open Educational Resources.\u201d Specifically, Benko, Hodge and Salloum\u2019s contribution focused on district and state policies that support the use of OER. You can read the report <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newamerica.org\/education-policy\/policy-papers\/creating-systems-sustainability-four-focus-areas-future-pk-12-open-educational-resources\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Drs. Voran Honors Distinguished Professor in Humanities and Professor of English at Ball State University<\/span><\/em><\/h5>\n<p><b>Prof. Alex Kaufman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is very happy to report that his book has just been published (ahead of its 2019 imprint!).\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Robin Hood and the Outlaw\/ed Literary Canon<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, edited by Lesley Coote and Alexander L. Kaufman (New York and London: Routledge, 2019) is a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0cutting-edge volume of eleven essays and a critical introduction demonstrates both the literary quality and the socio-economic importance of works on \u201cthe matter of the greenwood\u201d over a long chronological period. These include drama texts, prose literature and novels (among them, children&#8217;s literature), and poetry. Whilst some of these are anonymous, others are acknowledged canonical writers, such as William Shakespeare, Ben Jonson, and John Keats. It has also been included in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBest Of\u201d Final Girls Women in Horror, Seattle, Washington.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rani\u2019s original half hour TV comedy pilot script, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recess Duty<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, was a finalist in the New York Screenplay Contest.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rani is currently working with Suzanne Richard of Open Circle Theater on a reading of Rani\u2019s ten minute play, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why You Can\u2019t Put a Wheelchair on the Stage<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a theatrical farce addressing disability and performance. Open Circle Theater is Washington DC\u2019s first professional theater company to integrate talent with disabilities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rani was awarded $750 College of Science and Humanities Immersive Learning Mini Grant to implement immersive learning community projects to her Spring 19 Advanced Screenwriting Class.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Prof. Kathryn S. Gardiner<\/strong>\u2019s feature-length screenplay \u201cThe Art of Yielding\u201d was named a quarter-finalist in the Diversity category of the Final Draft Big Break Screenwriting Contest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Prof. Joyce Huff <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professor Huff presented a paper entitled \u201cBody Tourism: Alexander Walker\u2019s Guidebook for Viewers of the Female Body\u201d at the annual meeting of the North American Victorian Studies Association.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professor Huff also has been giving talks at public libraries over the past few months in celebration of some literary anniversaries. In September and October, she spoke about the 200th anniversary of the publication of the novel <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Frankenstein <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at the Muncie Public Library and the Newcastle-Henry County Library, while, in July, she gave speech in honor of the 200th birthday of Emily Bront\u00eb, author of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wuthering Heights<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, at the Carmel Clay Library.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Prof. Megumi Hamada and her MA TESOL &amp; Linguistics students\u00a0<\/b><b>Ben Bishop and Shelley Spilman\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">presented their paper, \u201cSemantic Relation and Learning of Second Language Noun-Noun Compounds,\u201d at Second Language Research Forum (SLRF) in October, in Montreal, Canada. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Prof. Gui Garcia <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professor Garcia was awarded the New Faculty Start-up Grant (for AY 2019).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He also presented joint work with Heather Goad at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">49th Meeting of the North East Linguistic Society<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NELS<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">), held at Cornell this year (talk:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/jzwp4il88j0vml6\/nels49_garcia_goad.pdf?raw=1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Feet are parametric\u2014even in languages with stress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d). Additionally, he presented joint work with Heather Goad, Lydia White and colleagues at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Second Language Research Forum<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (SLRF), held at Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al (UQAM) this year (talk: \u201cEffects of prosody on L2 interpretation of Italian pronouns\u201d). Finally, the Applied Statistics and R group met Oct 3rd to discuss LyX, a tool for compiling documents such as research papers, handouts, and slides. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Prof. Darolyn \u201cLyn\u201d Jones<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Jones presented \u00a0 \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unschooling and Equity Teaching Practices and Community Literacy:#blacklivesmatter\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">with Marian University professor of Communications, Michael Baumann at the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2018 I<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">nternational Conference on Literacy, Culture, Language, and Education at Indiana University on October 7th.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jones also presented \u201cResourcing, Teaming, and Margining: Worlding\u201d with her husband, the chairperson and the Larry Roan Distinguished Professor of Construction Management, Dr James Jones as an invited Skype presentation to Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) students in the neuro development pediatric program at Kean University on Tuesday, October 23rd.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With her students, Jones also held the first Indiana viewing of \u00a0the documentary \u201cIntelligent Lives\u201d for the Ball State, Muncie, and surrounding communities. \u00a0Jones and her students in the Disability Representation in Children\u2019s &amp; YA Lit also led the audience in a research based discussion after the event on Tuesday, October 23rd.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Prof. Emily Rutter <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">presented \u201cWhere Will All That Beauty Go?: A Tribute to Poet-Critic Tiffany Austin\u201d at the Issues in Critical Investigation Symposium on the African Diaspora and the Anthropocene at Vanderbilt University. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Prof. Rai Peterson<\/strong>\u2019s scholarly article, \u201cJanet Flanner\u2019s Transnational, Lesbian, Modernist Novel: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Cubical City<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201d has been accepted for spring publication by the French journal <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Revue \u00c9lectronique d\u2019\u00c9tudes sur le Monde Anglophone<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Prof. Angela Cox<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019s chapter \u201cWomen by Women: A Gender Analysis of Sierra Titles by Women Designers\u201d was published in the new book <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Feminism in Play<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> edited by Kishonna L. Gray, Gerald Voorhees, and Emma Vossen (Palgrave Macmillan, ISBN 978-3-319-90538-9). Her research project \u201cAn Inquiry on the Impact of National Novel Writing Month on Participants\u2019 Self-Perception as Writers\u201d was given IRB approval and launches October 25th and will be ongoing through December.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Prof. Jill Christman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will be traveling to the 2018<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonfictionow.org\/schedule\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NonfictioNow conference<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Phoenix, Arizona this week to present on \u201cWriting the Day,\u201d chair and present on \u201cOur True Voice(s),\u201d and, she hopes, perform in a way that makes everyone @bsuenglish proud in the NonfictionWOW!
