New works are on display in the Asian Art Gallery on the main level and in the North Galleries upstairs thanks to patron, David T. Owsley, who lent <em>Kannon<\/em>, <em>Rape of Europa<\/em>, and <em>Waterfall, Greenwich<\/em>. The museum often receives gifts and loans from donors that allow the collection to grow and new art to go on display.<\/p>\n<p><em>Kannon<\/em>, a Japanese sculpture from the Muromachi period (1338\u20131573 CE) can be viewed in the Japanese wall case in the Owsley Asian Art Gallery. Kannon is a bodhisattva who personifies compassion and mercy. While the bodhisattva of compassion is known as Kannon in Japan, the deity goes by the name Guanyin in China. While in the gallery, don\u2019t miss the sculpture of <a href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/libx.bsu.edu\/cdm\/compoundobject\/collection\/MuseumBSU\/id\/4487\/rec\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guanyin<\/a> nearby.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_814\" style=\"width: 193px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2014\/04\/02114051\/untitled3.png\" rel=\"lightbox-0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-814\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-814\" src=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2014\/04\/02114051\/untitled3.png?w=183\" alt=\"Unidentified Japanese Artist, Kannon, L2013.010.000\" width=\"183\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-814\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Unidentified Japanese Artist, Kannon, L2013.010.000<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Upstairs, Jacques Lipchitz\u2019s bronze statue, <em>Rape of Europa II<\/em>, was conceived between 1936\u20131941, and cast prior to 1955. Lipchitz related the myth of the Rape of Europa to Europe and Hitler. In the late 1800s Twatchman moved from his birthplace, Cincinnati, to a large property in Greenwich, Connecticut.
