They asked what seemed like a simple question: \u201cCan you name five women artists off the top of your head?\u201d But many were unable to\u2013\u2013even those who worked in the arts. The challenge brought shock, elicited a challenge and started a global conversation about female participation in the arts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The museum continued the campaign in 2017, with 520 arts and cultural organizations from all seven continents and 30 countries recognizing the works of female artists. The challenge began again this March, with museums and organizations across the world shining a light on women who have made significant impacts in the arts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Here at the David Owsley Museum of Art, we are honored to house many artworks produced by talented female artists who have made significant strides. In honor of the #5WomenArtists challenge, here are five inspirational women whose art is available to see at DOMA.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Christina Ramberg<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\"><a href=\"http:\/\/libx.bsu.edu\/cdm\/compoundobject\/collection\/MuseumBSU\/id\/1644\/rec\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christina Ramberg<\/a> (1946-1995) is an American painter who was part of the Chicago Imagists, a group of representational artists who attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1960s. For many years, she has worked in her studio in New York City. Ma has painted since she was a child, and her experiences in graphic design often translate into her paintings.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2902\" style=\"width: 4042px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2902\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2902\" src=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2018\/03\/02121322\/img_5840-1-1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5840 (1)\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3024\"><p id=\"caption-attachment-2902\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo provided by DMD Contemporary<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><b>Lee Krasner<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">One of the most well-known artists in our collection, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\"><a href=\"http:\/\/libx.bsu.edu\/cdm\/singleitem\/collection\/MuseumBSU\/id\/805\/rec\/4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lee Krasner<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">&nbsp;(1908-1984) helped break gender stereotypes during the male-dominated Abstract Expressionist movement. She is most well-known for writing and illustrating her book <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scholastic.com\/teachers\/books\/caps-for-sale-by-esphyr-slobodkina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cCaps for Sale,\u201d<\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> which is regarded as a children\u2019s classic.
