The David Owsley Museum of Art offers many tours throughout the year led by the volunteer docents. Among the different types of tours is the Docent’s Choice, a tour planned and designed by a docent using their unique knowledge of subjects and detailed research on each topic. These tours are free to anyone who wishes to join and are offered at 2:30 pm most Saturdays, excluding holidays.
This previous Saturday, a tour led by Aubry Daman was held in the Decorative Arts and Design gallery. Aubry is a Ball State student studying Art Education with a specialization in Ceramics. Titled “Ceramics in Decorative Arts: Mass Produced vs. Handmade,” her topic related to factory-produced versus handcrafted ceramics of the 20th century. She took visitors on a tour of the new Decorative Arts gallery and discussed different ceramics, including two examples made by the Muncie Pottery company in the early 1900s.
A forthcoming Docent’s Choice tour will be on Saturday, December 7th by Ball State student Laura Lemna. Her topic, entitled “Representations of Saints and More” covers how saints and other enlightened beings were depicted in works of art.
