The Fabrication team has projects going in and out of the lab on a regular basis, and as the deadlines<\/span>\u00a0get closer<\/span>, time for the team to appreciate the work process and product\u00a0<\/span>isn\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>easy to fin<\/span>d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>However,\u00a0<\/span>sometimes\u00a0<\/span>a project stands out that they\u00a0<\/span>emphasize\u00a0<\/span><\/span>making<\/span><\/span>\u00a0time<\/span>\u00a0to appreciate the work that went in<\/span>to the product<\/span>. One of these projects was the IT Phishing Awards, which was\u00a0<\/span>mainly headed<\/span>\u00a0by Fabrication Team Apprentice Emily Nichols<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

T<\/span>he IT Phishing Awards were<\/span> given by Ball State\u2019s Information Technology Division to award other departments around the university that performed the best in the IT phishing-email simulations.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe kind of just ran with it and made a\u00a0<\/span>design<\/span>, kind of a fun thin<\/span>g<\/span>, that was a cross over between fishing, like catching fish, and mail and mailboxes.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>– Fabrication Team Lead Andrew Arthur<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

 <\/p>\n

This project was <\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>significant<\/span>\u00a0challenge<\/span>\u00a0for Nichols, as it was the first time\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>majority<\/span>\u00a0of<\/span>\u00a0a project was in her hands.<\/span>\u00a0Like all things, there were a few\u00a0<\/span>bottlenecks\u00a0<\/span>in the process that Nichols took in stride and\u00a0<\/span>took\u00a0<\/span>the opportunity to learn along the way. For instance,\u00a0<\/span>she had to sharpen her skills on Rhino, a 3D software<\/span>, to\u00a0<\/span>determine<\/span>\u00a0the best way to print the mailboxes to allow the door to open and close<\/span>, as well as curve the envelopes\u00a0<\/span>to make them appear to be flying out of the\u00a0<\/span>mailbox.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was involved with designing and developing, and then\u00a0<\/span>eventually<\/span> actually 3D printing and constructing the trophies.\u201d – Fabrication Apprentice Emily Nichols<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This project was also\u00a0<\/span>very helpful<\/span>\u00a0for the<\/span>\u00a0priority of<\/span>\u00a0interdisciplinary\u00a0<\/span>collaboration\u00a0<\/span>within\u00a0<\/span>the Digital Corps<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0with the Fabrication team brainstorming with\u00a0<\/span>the Design team and focusing on making the best product possible, together.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>For Andrew Arthur, the Fabrication Team Lead, this project was one of his favorites<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0not only for being able to watch and help Nichols to grow in her skills, but that\u00a0<\/span>it<\/span>\u00a0was a project\u00a0<\/span>that t<\/span>ruly\u00a0<\/span>repre<\/span>sented<\/span>\u00a0the goal and mission of the Fab\u00a0<\/span>Lab.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
