“If I hadn’t found the Corps, I think my college experience would have been very different, and I couldn’t be more grateful, for not just the experience it’s given me, but the people. I am forever changed by those people.”
Over the years, the Digital Corps has had members that ignite the passion in the people around them, and Video Team Specialist Luci Bluto is one of them. She prioritizes her coworkers, their time, and their space. For instance, Luci said, “I try to bring energy to any room that I’m in. I like to make sure that everyone’s having a good time and make sure that people are enjoying themselves and the rooms that I’m in, I want to fill with a positive energy.”
Of the eight Corps values, Luci’s favorite is collaborating on interdisciplinary teams. “You become better by not just knowing people outside of your own field, but people from different backgrounds and different walks of life,” Luci said, “and it really highlights the importance of being different and understanding people outside your own scope.”
Luci has used her time at the Digital Corps to advance and use her preexisting skills, like collaboration. She described herself as “an incredibly talkative person, and I used to see that as a weakness, but I try to utilize it as a strength, and it actually became one of my most identifiable factors.”
Luci has used the Digital Corps as an environment to grow and learn as both an individual and a professional. While some projects have been challenging, Luci has risen to the occasion and used these projects to grow and nurture her expertise time and time again.
This was very prominent with one of the Digital Corps reoccurring projects, show promotions, where students capture content of an upcoming theatre performance and produce the minute-long promotional video within 24 hours.
“Learning those skills, learning that fast-paced workplace environment, and working with others to get something done in such a short time frame […] really changed the way that I view my work and my own skills,” Luci said.
While Luci has been at Ball State, she has taken on leadership roles with the Rocky Horror Picture Show Shadow Cast and the Frog Baby Film Festival.
We at the Digital Corps are proud to have been part of Luci’s learning and growth during her college career. We wish her the best as she goes on to her next chapter!
