Phillips<\/strong> was published by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hispanic Issues On-Line<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prof. Hessel\u2019s bilingual blog post about the Oscar\u2019s \u201cslap\u201d was published by the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cervantes Public Project<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cervantespublicproject.com\/blog\/the-slap\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Slap (La bofetada)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Prof. Hessel\u2019s<\/strong> podcast <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pod Quixote <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">published 2 new episodes: \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzsprout.com\/1777936\/episodes\/10064939\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Stephen Haff and Rogelio Mi\u00f1ana<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d and \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzsprout.com\/1777936\/episodes\/10676538\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Steven Ritz-Barr and Esther Fern\u00e1ndez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Prof. Hessel<\/strong> presented at four conferences during the 2022-2023 academic year, including the Kentucky Foreign Language Conference, the V Cervantes Symposium of the North East, the Ball State Provost Faculty Summit, and the Annual Meeting of the Renaissance Society of America.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Lisa Kuriscak\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prof. Kuriscak was awarded the Ball State Outstanding Advisor Award.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Marie-Line Brunet<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The teaching unit, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/muse.jhu.edu\/issue\/43050\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dossier p\u00e9dagogique: Edmond (Alexis Michalik, 2019)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, co-authored by Nathalie Degroult (Siena College) and Marie-Line Brunet (Ball State University) is among the most-read Hopkins Press journal articles on Project MUSE in 2022.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.press.jhu.edu\/newsroom\/2022s-most-read-journal-articles-hopkins-press\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.press.jhu.edu\/newsroom\/2022s-most-read-journal-articles-hopkins-press<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kazumi Matsumoto Cantrell<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Cantrell was named 2022 Teacher of the Year by The Association of Indiana Teachers of Japanese.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Jennifer Rathbun<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Rathbun published her poetry book in translation of Alberto Blanco\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">GIROS DE FAROS \/ CIRCLING BEACONS<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Guernica Editions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Charlie Geyer<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Geyer accepted a tenure-track position at the University of Arizona.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Chin-Sook Pak<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Pak coordinated with the College of Health to develop both beginner and intermediate courses in Spanish catered to nursing students. These courses are being taught by her and Adam Ballart and expand on the department\u2019s current material designed for health professionals, including Spanish 338: Spanish for Health Professions and Prof. Ballart\u2019s Lifetime Learning Micro-Credential Program Spanish for Healthcare.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Liu Li<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Li presented her project \u201cImpact of pinyin-typing on CSL learners\u2019 orthographic and phonological awareness\u201d at the annual conference of Chinese Language Teachers\u2019 Association in Washington DC on April 1, 2023<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Li held a professional-development workshop with high school teachers Ms. Chunmei Guan and Ms. Ye Sun on \u201cIntegration of Language, Culture and Content in Foreign Language Classroom\u201d at the Central States Foreign Language Teachers\u2019 Association in Columbus, Ohio on March 9, 2023<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #ba0000\">Current Students<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Lev Heck<\/strong>, Japanese Teaching Major has gotten accepted into the JET program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">French and Fashion Major <strong>Jess Melvin<\/strong> was chosen as the Fulbright English teaching assistant for South Korea.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Brittany Arendt<\/strong> (French Teaching Major), <strong>Caia Brandle<\/strong>, <strong>Ellie Chandler<\/strong> (French Minor), <strong>Vanessa Cuazitl<\/strong> (French Major), <strong>Bridget Johnson<\/strong> (French Major),<strong> Noah Mishler<\/strong>, <strong>Kennedy Moore<\/strong> and <strong>Sarah Olsen<\/strong> (French Minor) have been awarded a Transatlantic Mobility Program Scholarship to study abroad in France. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The scholarship was made possible by the very generous support of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States. Indeed, i<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">n May 2014 the U.S. Department of State and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated their support towards Franco-American student mobility through a joint declaration which led to the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transatlantic Friendship &amp; Mobility Initiative<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. This joint declaration aims to strengthen the historic ties between the United States and France by diversifying and doubling the number of students from France and the United States studying abroad in both countries by 2025. Together with APLU and NAFSA, the Cultural Services and the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the U.S. have launched the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transatlantic Mobility Program<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with the aim of providing grants to colleges and universities which prioritize student mobility.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Katelyn Redman<\/strong> (German Teaching Major) and Kami Horn (German Teaching Major) are studying abroad this semester in Germany. Katelyn is at the University of\u00a0 Regensburg with the Kentucky Institute for International Studies and Kami is on the BSU exchange program at the Technische Universitaet Dortmund.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Chinese minor <strong>Isabella McBride<\/strong> has been accepted to participate the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gooverseas.com\/language-schools\/taiwan\/program\/205400\">Taiwan Intensive Summer Language Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">German minor<strong> Reaghan Lewis<\/strong> was listed among the 100 best students at Ball State University.
