Dr. Faezeh Soleimani joins Ball State faculty as an Assistant Professor of Mathematical Sciences.

Meet Dr. Soleimani

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from Razi University of Kermanshah, Iran in 2011. She graduated with her first Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics-Operations Research from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Kharazmi University of Tehran, Iran in 2014. She also received an MS and a PhD in Mathematics-Data Science from the Department of Mathematics at The University of Texas at Arlington in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Before joining the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Ball State University, she had taught several undergraduate math courses at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Her educational background includes:

  • D. in Mathematics from The University of Texas at Arlington, 2021(area of specialization- Data Science and Optimization)
  • Sc. in Mathematics – Data Science from The University of Texas at Arlington, 2020
  • Sc. in Applied Mathematics- Operations Research from Kharazmi University of Tehran, Iran, 2014
  • Sc. in Applied Mathematics from Razi University, Iran, 2011

What initially drew you to your field of study/piqued your interest?

I have always been fascinated by my mathematical studies and enjoyed solving math problems. The challenges of thinking and the process of logic always attract me to mathematical problems. Having a flair for the subject, there was never any doubt that I would choose mathematics as a degree. It is a pivotal and amazing subject on which so many others depend.

I relish the challenge of problem solving that mathematics provides. For me, it is an endlessly intriguing subject, as the discipline appears limitless, allowing so much scope and flexibility for further study and research.

What is your research focus in your department/area of study?

My main research focus is Data Science. My research interests include numerical linear algebra, numerical analysis, mathematical optimization, scientific computing, machine learning, data mining, and artificial intelligence.

What drew you to Ball State?

There are many reasons I’m drawn to Ball State University. Ball State has a great history of over 100 years has one of the best departments in mathematics and computer science. Muncie is a very safe and family-oriented city. In addition, in 2007, Muncie was rated the most affordable college town in America by real estate company Coldwell Banker. Music and art are part of the Ball State University culture and three of the city’s largest performing arts centers belong to Ball State University.

What are some of your goals for your first year here?

The teaching and research culture of the Ball State University provides me a great opportunity for the undergraduate and graduate students to get more involved with research to improve their research abilities. My first year plan is to get involved with other faculty members and submitting proposals to attract more projects from local and governmental agencies to have more opportunities to involve more undergraduate and graduate students with the research.

What are some of your hobbies/non-academic interests?

I enjoy playing volleyball, traveling, watching movies, and reading books.
