Dr. Eric Klosterman, Associate Lecturer of Sport Administration and Coordinator of Undergraduate Sport Administration Program, and Tonya Skalon, Associate Lecturer of Exercise Science, lead a group of 15 students on an adventure to Costa Rica. The other students, not in exercise science, still had a valuable experience and found ways of incorporating their major of focus throughout the experience,\u201d said Skalon.<\/p>\n<p>The group departed May 7, flying into San Jose and taking up residence in the Crowne Plaza hotel.\u00a0 The students were enrolled in the course, Kinesiology 299X, International Business and Sport Careers, but their lessons weren\u2019t limited to the time they spent at Santa Paula University for lecture and workshops.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_281\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-281\" class=\"wp-image-281 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2023\/07\/25081816\/346281501_562597382570511_7900584602892516161_n-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2023\/07\/25081816\/346281501_562597382570511_7900584602892516161_n-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2023\/07\/25081816\/346281501_562597382570511_7900584602892516161_n-1024x772.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2023\/07\/25081816\/346281501_562597382570511_7900584602892516161_n-768x579.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2023\/07\/25081816\/346281501_562597382570511_7900584602892516161_n.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-281\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Butterflies interacted with visitors at the animal sanctuary.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe primary experience was to look and experience how sport administration\/management and exercise science is operated, viewed, and experienced in Costa Rica, both similarly and differently, then the United States. Within this framework, we looked at how sport business and tourism (all-encompassing disciplines from sport business-related topics) impact Costa Rica\u2019s economic development and impact to the country,\u201d Klosterman said.<\/p>\n<p>These students connected with a local organization, Escules Deportivas, for a community service project. And, they worked with students at a school in Rio Azul as well.<\/p>\n<p>But they also got some time to explore the beautiful country, with planned excursions in sports tourism of many types. The group went hiking in the La Paz Waterfall Gardens and toured an animal sanctuary. They went to the Arenal Volcano and white water rafting on the Balsa River. The group finished up their adventures with a guided tour through the Manuel Antonio National Park before heading back to Muncie!
