Interpretation of the Pin

The gold pin or medal, which nursing baccalaureate program graduates will wear, incorporates elements of the Ball State University brand. The pin is symbolic of the nurse in the practice of the profession of nursing.
Beneficence, the statue in the brand mark and on Ball State’s campus, is symbolic of the Ball family’s philanthropic contributions to the state, the community, and particularly to the education of young people.

The pin represents:

Knowledge gained in the pursuit of an education and to be gained as the individual continues to grow personally and professionally in the pursuit of the chosen career
Love gained through understanding and appreciation of the democratic process, the dignity of humanity, and the mutual respect of individuals
Loyalty given to the school, family, and colleagues and to be given to the employer in the pursuit of the practice of the profession
Charity given to all, whether they be neighbors, friend, or client and to be given in the application of the art of nursing.
These characteristics are the art and science of nursing.

Graduates:
The alumni and faculty challenge you to wear your pin with pride; remember its symbolism – knowledge, love, loyalty, and charity; grow in your profession, and practice with integrity.
