Let&#8217;s dive into what November had in store for us!<\/p>\n<p>To start things off, we would like to recognize TCOM as the winner of our 2020 pumpkin competition. The video they created (below) should bring a smile on your face. We also want to give a shout-out to CICS and the departments of Journalism and Communication Studies for their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CG6CT8zhG8_\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">creative submissions!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bi6yVYgUlHo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Students<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Journalism junior <strong>Duncan McLarty<\/strong> was named to the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">George H.W. Bush Points of Light Awards Celebration Inspiration Honor Roll. He has provided Points of Light for many this year, working tirelessly to deliver groceries &amp; supplies to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestarpress.com\/story\/sports\/college\/ball-state\/2020\/11\/04\/ball-state-athlete-duncan-mclarty-honored-assisting-his-community\/6163304002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Read more<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Cardinal Cinema<\/strong> short films produced by TCOM students premiered on WIPB on November 6. The <em>Constellation Quest<\/em> crew <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CQuestFilm\/status\/1326190449305006080\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted<\/a> that they &#8220;edited the whole film, composited 150 VFX shots, filmed pick up shots and recorded V\/O&#8221; while in lockdown.<\/li>\n<li>Journalism Senior Aric Fulton has been recognized as the 2020-21 Future Teacher Scholarship Award recipient at the virtual Fall JEA\/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention. <a href=\"http:\/\/jea.org\/wp\/blog\/2020\/11\/21\/jea-adviser-awards-celebrated-in-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Read more<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Every year, graduate students in the CICS program compete in the Accenture Challenge as part of their CICS 601 class taught by Dr. Ray Steele. A campaign established in 2020 to provide more opportunities for filmmakers to tell Indiana stories.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Communication Studies alumna, <strong>Dr. Scarlett Hester<\/strong>, delivered the keynote presentation at the third annual Ball State University Undergraduate Communication Research Conference that was held on Nov 7.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TCOM aluma <\/span><strong>Amanda DeLotelle <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">started a nonprofit to feed the hungry amid COVID-19. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0Together with several partners, DeLotelle helped found the nonprofit Miami Valley Meals to provide nutritious food to those in need and also employment for out-of-work chefs and culinary professionals. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bsu.edu\/2020\/10\/22\/ccim-alum-starts-nonprofit-to-feed-the-hungry-amid-covid-19\/?fbclid=IwAR2D65disZv1lL15Zz2y7CeclCWSZWipxqsFNq_ep3cRVnSRJ-KtfPIUVW8\">Read more<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>TCOM alumnus <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bsu.edu\/ccim\/2020\/08\/26\/dwight-smith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dwight Smith<\/a><\/strong> was named one of three \u201cVolunteers of the Year\u201d in recognition for his work as a lead ambassador, spearheading alumni activity in Los Angeles, and motivating ambassadors across the country to engage others within their region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>CCIM Alumni Council &amp; Departmental Alumni Societies<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>CCIM is the first college at Ball State to launch its Alumni Council. After an inaugural call in mid-October, the <strong>CCIM Alumni Council<\/strong> met on November 16 for a virtual working session aimed at building alumni engagement across the college.<\/li>\n<li>All CCIM units also launched or revived their alumni societies at a departmental level with the following presidents: <strong>Tom Gayda<\/strong> (Journalism), <strong>Betsy Mills<\/strong> (Communication Studies), <strong>Dottie Kreps<\/strong> (Telecommunications), and <strong>Christopher Anderson<\/strong> (CICS).<\/li>\n<li>The Department of Journalism will soon share its alumni stories, expertise, and perspectives in two new media forms. The first one is <strong><em>Flock<\/em><\/strong>, a revival of the alumni periodical that existed a decade ago. The magazine will launch at a virtual event slated for December 4 with alumna <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bsu.edu\/ccim\/2020\/09\/09\/brittney-ermon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Brittney Ermon<\/strong><\/a> as the keynote speaker. The other is <strong><em>Birds of a Feather<\/em><\/strong>, a new podcast series featuring new Journalism alumni at each episode. The series will debut on December 7. For any questions, contact <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsu.edu\/academics\/collegesanddepartments\/journalism\/about-us\/faculty-staff\/news-concentration-faculty\/kubanadam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Kuban<\/a><\/strong> who spearheads both initiatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Faculty and Staff<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. <strong>James Chesebro<\/strong>, TCOM Professor Emeritus, was recognized posthumously on Nov. 21st with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.natcom.org\/awards\/distinguished-scholar-award\">Distinguished Scholar<\/a> award by the National Communication Association.
