Presented by the Ball State University Foundation, the Top 100 Student awards recognize 100 outstanding undergraduates at Ball State who represent Beneficence both in and out of the classroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applications were reviewed and scored by a group of Ball State alumni based on academic excellence, campus leadership, and community impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, 17 students were selected from the College of Communication, Information, and Media \u2014 six of whom are in the Top 50. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All honorees will be recognized during One Ball State Day on Wednesday, April 3, and those in the Top 50 have been invited to attend an awards ceremony on Saturday, March 23, where the Top 25 students will be announced. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Meghan Andrews<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Meghan Andrews is a senior studying Public Relations. As a non-traditional student, a wife, and a mother of four, her life is very busy. Despite her busy schedule, she decided to pursue her dream of returning to college to complete what she started before becoming a parent. This choice has opened up numerous exciting opportunities for Meghan. She’s experienced a fashion public relations internship collaborating with influencers and celebrity stylists, worked with collegiate athletes to launch a NIL startup, and is currently engaged in freelance projects for the Muncie community. Meghan aims to inspire other non-traditional students by showing that it’s never too late to chase your aspirations.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Katie Bilka<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Katie Bilka is currently a junior studying Public Relations and Graphic Design with a minor in Sociology. Since her time at Ball State began, she has been thoroughly involved on campus, including joining Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and PRSSA, both of which she held leadership positions in. Previously, Katie worked on campus with the Digital Corps design team and now holds a graphic design fellowship position with Ball State Public Media. She is also a member of the Honors College and Kappa Tau Alpha honor society. Katie is beyond grateful for the opportunities and connections that landed her on the Top 100 list for this school year! <\/p>\n<\/div>

Megan “Meg” Boeck is a recent graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies and a focus in Interpersonal Communication. She plans on continuing her education pursuing a JD\/MA in philanthropic studies, and hopes to do so at IU McKinney School of Law and Lily Family School of Philanthropy. After graduating in December, Meg was hired on as an intern with the Indiana House of Representatives for the 2024 Session. In her free time, Meg enjoys golfing (or trying to), blogging, podcasting, and stress baking. Her time at Ball State was not the “normal” college experience. There were many times in which she struggled to see herself graduating. Ball State faculty and staff were her “glue” during the hardest times in her life. They encouraged her, supported her, and held her accountable every step of the way. It’s indescribable how impactful the connections she made were, and they did not end when she graduated. Meg still has faculty reach out to encourage her or connect her with networking opportunities. Meg said she owes recognition to the faculty and staff of CCIM and the Department of Communication Studies for her Top 100 Student honor and her future continues to be bright thanks to her Cardinal Family. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Alex Buxton is a junior majoring in Interpersonal Communication Studies and is now enrolled into the accelerated masters program for Organizational and Professional Communication Development. On campus, Alex is involved with the Homecoming Steering Committee as the General Chair, the CCIM Dean’s Collegian Advisory Council, and Housing and Residence Life. Professionally, Alex is interested in pursuing a career in academia as well as outdoor education as a summer camp professional.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Olivia Ground is a third-year student majoring in Advertising with a concentration in Journalistic Narrative Writing. She has minors in Women and Gender Studies, Sociology, and Campaign Communication. Olivia has found her footing on campus by being involved in student media such as The Ball State Daily News where she is currently serving as Digital Managing Editor. She previously was the Social Media Editor and a Social Media Associate. She is also a photographer, graphic designer, and journalist for the paper. She has also been a member of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) for the past three years \u2014 working on creative work and market research on national campaign competitions. She is also a School of Journalism and Strategic Communication (SJSC) Peer Ambassador. Additionally, Olivia has previously been an Orientation Leader and is currently an RA on campus. Post-grad, Olivia hopes to pursue a career in social media and multimedia content creation. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ainsley is a fourth year Advertising student with a minor in Linguistics and Global Communication. She is actively involved in leadership roles within the CCIM Dean’s Collegian Advisory Council, the American Advertising Federation, and K-Pop Club. In her free time, she enjoys video editing and learning other languages. She plans to pursue a career within the aviation industry with a focus on advertising, communications, and consumer loyalty. <\/p>\n<\/div>

Dana Jones loves flowers and the color pink (especially when those two things are combined)! She feels blessed to have a wonderful family and lovely friends with whom she feels privileged to spend her time. Dana enjoys food and all it entails \u2014 cooking, eating, and even clean-up are fondly treasured experiences with the people she loves. Having grown up in Muncie, she’s taken advantage of its many educational institutions. When she graduated from Cowan High School, she did Ivy Tech’s ASAP program and then transferred to Ball State. She is grateful for the experiences she’s had at Ball State, especially for her participation in the American Advertising Federation (AAF). After graduating in December, she plans to serve an 18-month mission trip for her church in which she will do lots of service and give people the opportunity to learn about Jesus Christ. She is so excited for all she will learn and then to come back to BSU to finish her master’s degree. Dana’s biggest goals in life are to be a wife and mother and to help her family and community know that their lives are grand.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Grayson Joslin is a third-year Journalism major with a concentration in News Writing and Reporting and a minor in Political Science. Born in Muncie and growing up in nearby New Castle, Grayson is a first-generation college student who has embraced the Beneficence ideals of integrity and dedication to the truth in his studies and life. In his role as a student journalist through The Ball State Daily News, Grayson has received numerous state and national awards for his writing, covering personal opinions to feature length stories. He is grateful for the compassion and the support of everyone within not only the School of Journalism and Strategic Communication (SJSC) and CCIM communities, but the Ball State community as well during his time in college. <\/p>\n<\/div>

Trinity Journey was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, where her passion for film blossomed early on, ultimately leading her to pursue a degree in Media Production. Alongside her studies, Trinity serves as the Vice President of Student Voluntary Services and is involved with Fringed Production House on campus. When she’s not busy with academic commitments, Trinity can be found at the movie theater or engrossed in her newest read. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Rick Kann graduated in December 2023 with a degree in Public Relations. During his time at Ball State, he was the College of Communication, Information, and Media representative on Ball State’s Student Government Association and a member of the CCIM Dean’s Collegian Advisory Council. He also worked at the McKinley Avenue Agency in the Art and Journalism Building and at Blast Media as a Public Relations Assistant. He plans to stay around Indianapolis for the long haul and see where it takes him. <\/p>\n<\/div>

Daniel Kehn is a third-year Journalism and Media major with a minor in American Sign Language; he also serves as Editor-in-Chief of The Ball State Daily News. Daniel grew up in Southeastern Michigan and has fallen in love with the Ball State and Muncie community in his time here. Outside of the newsroom, he loves watching the Detroit Lions and Arsenal FC, is a huge Marvel and Star wars Fan, and is an avid runner.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

KwaTashea “Tash” Marfo, a dedicated third-year Public Relations major, exemplifies commitment to service and community involvement. Engaged in a multitude of organizations, including School of Journalism and Strategic Communication (SJSC) Ambassadors, REACH peer mentor, and Peer Advocacy Leader for the Multicultural Center, she also holds the esteemed position of President of Men and Women of Color while actively participating in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). her recent nomination as one of Ball State’s Top 50 Outstanding Students stands as a testament to her unwavering dedication and tireless efforts in embodying her mantra of aiding others as she wishes to be supported. In each of her roles, Tash fervently strives to uplift underrepresented communities, regardless of their obstacles. Her commitment extends beyond mere involvement; it embodies advocacy and philanthropy as she endeavors to empower others to reach their fullest potential. Through meaningful discourse and active engagement, she channels her energy into giving back to the Ball State Community, fostering an environment of inclusivity and support. Ellie Parkison is a senior majoring in Interpersonal Communication with minors in Family Engagement and Strategic Communication. She is a proud Muncie native and is currently the Communications and Outreach Intern for Nonprofit Support Network, a local nonprofit organization. She is also involved in a campus ministry at Ball State called Cru, where she has grown in her faith and met some of her best friends. Ellie loves all things pop culture, McDonald’s Dr. Pepper, and raising awareness around the subject of mental health by sharing her lived experiences with others. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ryan Sierocki, Top 50 <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ryan Sierocki is from Frankfort, Illinois. Prior to Ball State, he attended Lincoln Way East High School and was captain on the varsity basketball team. He chose Ball State alongside several of his closest friends from back home and since August of 2020 has been pursuing a degree in Journalism and Telecommunications with minors in Spanish and Mathematical Sciences. Ryan has been working with University Media Services through ChirpVision since his sophomore year to broadcast Ball State athletics to the ESPN+ streaming service. Additionally, he is the current Vice President of Cardinal Sports Live, a weekly Ball State sports talk show that streams live every Thursday. Outside of academic and extracurricular responsibilities, Ryan is a huge supporter of Ball State athletics and has traveled to Lexington, Bowling Green, and Miami Ohio to support the Cardinals over the past three semesters.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Mesgana Waiss, a Ball State University senior Journalism Student, currently serves as the Senior Features Editor at Byte, a student-run online entertainment magazine. She finds journalism a way to affirm and champion the essence of humanity. Her invaluable experience as an intern at the Indianapolis Recorder and Indiana Landmarks has enriched her storytelling abilities. These opportunities as well as a formative college career have fueled her special interest in history, music, and fashion. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Claire Witte <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Claire Witte is from Jasper, Indiana. She’s a senior at Ball State with plans to graduate in three years with a Sports Media degree. Claire is part of the Honors College as a Presidential Scholar, and her extracurriculars include being an At-Large Member of the Department of Media Student Advisory Council and the Digital Media Chair for the Homecoming Steering Committee. On campus, she holds three different job titles. She works as a Creative Content Assistant for Ball State Athletic Communications and helps manage the Ball State Athletic social channels and create content across all athletic platforms. Claire also works as a Student Video Assistant for Ball State Football doing similar work in addition to filming practice for Coaches Film. Her third position is a Campus Tour Guide\/Welcome Center Representative for Ball State Admissions. Through the media program, Claire is currently working on a feature-length documentary that will focus on the adversity and lives of three football players. She is also going to Wales over Spring Break to create stories on Welsh athletes with the Sports Link program. She takes pride in each of her roles at Ball State, whether it be as an employee, committee member, or student. Outside of Ball State, Claire was a Game Productions Intern with the Pittsburgh Steelers and a Creative Video Intern with USA Baseball.<\/p>\n<\/div>

On campus, Jacob is involved in the CCIM Dean’s Advisory Council, Philanthropy Education Council, Housing and Residence Life, and Ball State University Dance Marathon.
