CCIM Units

    • CCIM women’s table raised over $2,000 at “Just Desserts” (Boys and Girls Club Fundraiser).
    • On October 4th, we announced a series of key changes, including:
      • The Department of Journalism is renamed the School of Journalism and Strategic Communication. Consistent with an ever-changing, dynamic media landscape, the School of Journalism and Strategic Communication gives students an opportunity to learn every side of the media business while also providing them high-demand skillsets for employers across the marketplace.
      • The Department of Telecommunications is now the Department of Media. Students in the Department of Media are empowered to craft compelling stories by taking advantage of best-in-class facilities, which are available early in their education career. In those facilities, students learn to investigate, research, and study issues related to new forms of digital media.
      • Extending the reach of the Center for Information and Communication Sciences (CICS), the undergraduate Computer Technology program has been fully redesigned to align with student interests and market demands. The renamed Computer & Information Technology (CIT) program now includes an emphasis on the leadership, organizational behavior, and communication skills necessary for professional success and on high-demand technology areas, including virtualization, cloud services, cybersecurity, and emerging technology. Additional concentrations in other areas, such as tech-informed leadership, esports, and full-stack development are under development.
      • A reformulated Ball State Public Media program will strengthen CCIM’s efforts to provide a meaningful educational experience through unparalleled immersive learning opportunities for students. This expanded vision of media aligns with the University’s mission to provide the community purposeful, deliberate content on topics and issues that matter most including local news, entertainment, and inspirational storytelling.
      • The introduction of two new Accelerated Masters Programs (AMP): Emerging Media Design and Development and Public Relations, whereby undergraduate students can take up to 12 credits of graduate courses, allowing them the opportunity to complete their BA/BS and MA degrees in five years.
    • The Department of Media Alumni Society hosted a meeting on Campus on Friday, October 22. One of the Society’s projects was to finalize plans for the new alumni speakers series, which will have it’s first event on November, 11th.

Alumni

  • Journalism and Telecommunications alumna, Rachel Rusnak was named Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Toledo.
  • Communication Studies alumna, Karly Poyner co-authored a chapter for Lexington Books.
  • The CCIM Alumni tent was greeted with smiles and fond memories as alumni flocked to campus for Homecoming. 

Students

  • CCIM hosted a preview day with Ball State Admissions to encourage prospective students to join our college! The student panel was led by Imanni Butts, Kayla Snyder, Kami Geron, Ameliah Kolp, and Dan Chepkwony. They shared the endless educational possibilities within the CCIM, admission criteria, scholarships, financial aid, and most importantly, what it means to be a Cardinal. 
  • Ball State Sports Link, in partnership with Cardiff Met Sport Broadcast, has started a podcast.

    CCIM in the News

    Volunteer Opportunities

    • We are looking for faculty and student volunteers for preview day on November 13, contact Brea Cunningham if you are interested.

    • Our 8twelve friends need additional volunteers for the Avondale/Ross Center Trunk or Treat from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, along 10th Street, between Avondale United Methodist Church and the Ross Community Center. Volunteers should arrive by 4:15 p.m., ask for Darbi Strahle or Neil Kring, and expect to help with any of the following duties:

      • Run games at the Ross Center 
      • Serve hot dogs and chips at Avondale UMC
      • Walk with kids who come to trunk-or-treat without

      Everyone is welcome to this event, which is expected to draw 300 kids and their families. Enjoy hot chocolate and coffee at the Ross Center, hot dogs and chips in front of the Avondale UMC, and S’mores/a fire at the neighborhood garden (which is across from Avondale UMC).
