Our construction management student teams have been preparing since the start of the semester for the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Regional Competition. They traveled to Downers Grove, IL to test themselves against students from across the region and across the country. We had three teams competing, and all showed an impressive effort, representing the Ball State Construction Management program.

1st Place Concrete Solutions Team

Faculty coaches Sherif Attallah and Natalie Sanchez prepared our Concrete Solutions team, who brought a First Place victory home! This was an “open” category, with teams from across the nation coming to compete. Darryn Kuhl, Autumn Larkins, Youssef Mahfouz, Carlie Stalnecker, Nick Taylor, and Jacy Weatherly were our student competitors. This event was sponsored by Lithko Contracting and focused on submitting a proposal for the concrete package for a multistory facility in the heart of a Midwestern city.

3rd Place Design-Build Team

Coach Cynthia Hunter prepared our Design-Build team of Melissa Magallanes, Will Mowat, Nathan Owen, Andrew Porter, Katherine Wilkinson, and Kevin Zabala brought home a 3rd Place finish. The team was edged out by Ferris State (1st) and MSOE (2nd) and beat the University of Cincinnati and Purdue University Northwest in this regional competition. The category was sponsored by McCarthy and was focused on a new athletic center for the University of Knoxville.

Coach Gary Birk led the Preconstruction team, who competed well but did not place this year. The student team members included Maggie Duda, Aiden Gleave, Conner Morris, Tanner Mote, and Trevor Stenger. This division was sponsored by Pepper Construction and the project was a 6-story, 114,134 gsf Polytechnic Construction Center for Pepper University.

The amazing performance of these teams demonstrate that our students continue to compete at the highest levels with those of other programs nationwide!
