WEISS/MANFREDI is a New York City-based multidisciplinary practice known for the dynamic integration of architecture, infrastructure, and landscape. Projects that exemplify this cross disciplinary design approach include the Seattle Art Museum Olympic Sculpture Park, recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the world’s “top ten architectural marvels”, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Visitor Center, and Hunter’s Point South Waterfront Park. Current projects include the United States Embassy in New Delhi, India, the Longwood Gardens renovation and expansion, and the recently won international competition to reimagine the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. Additional noted projects include Yale University’s Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking, Penn’s Singh Center for Nanotechnology, the Tata Innovation Center for Cornell Tech, The Novartis Pharmaceuticals Oncology headquarters building, and The Marshall Performing Arts Center.  

Marion Weiss and Michael Manfredi received the 2020 Thomas Jefferson Gold Medal, the 2018 Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for Architecture, the New York Center for Architecture President’s Award, the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Architecture, the Architectural League of New York’s “Emerging Voices” award, the New York AIA Gold Medal, and the Tau Sigma Delta Gold Medal, awarded to one individual or firm in the world each year.  The firm’s projects have been featured in exhibitions including the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, The Museum of Modern Art, the Sao Paulo Biennale of International Architecture and Design, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, The Guggenheim Museum, the National Building Museum, Harvard University, the International Landscape Architecture Biennale in Barcelona, and the Design Centre in Essen, Germany. Princeton Architectural Press has published three monographs on WEISS/MANFREDI’s work including Site Specific, Surface/ Subsurface and their most recent book, PUBLIC NATURES: Evolutionary Infrastructures. 

Michael Manfredi teaches Urban Design at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and Marion Weiss is the Graham Chair Professor of Practice at the University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design. They were Saarinen Visiting Professors at Yale and have also taught studios at Cornell University and Harvard. Manfredi received his Master of Architecture at Cornell University and Weiss received her Master of Architecture at Yale University and Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia. They are both fellows of the American Institute of Architects and National Academy of Design inductees.
