Interior design students took part in a furniture competition as part of Associate Professor Reza Ahmadi’s IDES 320 Furniture Design course in spring semester.

Purposeful Design and the Indiana Chapter ASID sponsored the competition which was judged on production and construction details, aesthetics, marketability, and incorporation of critique comments.  Margaret Carter of Purposeful Design and Olivia Snyder and Alex Cain of the Indiana Chapter ASID served as judges.

Judges said they were “blown out of the water” by the quality of the designs and called the students “extremely talented.”

They praised the versatility and design of the pieces and predicted several of the pieces would be hot sellers if produced.

Students submitted 44 entries in the five categories. Mariah Stoner, who was recognized for both her bookcase and table designs, received the grand prize. Other students receiving special recognition are Hannah Stineburg, Cassandra Martin, Addison Strachan, Audrey Weigel, Lorraine Rodrigues, Sara Rokosz, Bailie McNeil, and Brooke Willman.
